A "good enough" mom muses about alpha moms, adoption, computers, the State Of The World, Internet quirkiness, and the Kosmik All
The big battle begins
South Dakota Senate passes abortion bill that makes it a felony to provide an abortion to any woman except to save her life. It's posed as direct challenge Roe v. Wade, now that Alito and Roberts are on board the Supreme Court. The thinking, obviously, is that the balance has tipped. Let's all get ready to adopt all those babies in South Dakota born to women not willing or ready or able to care for them. Not that I want to think of OmegaDotter as a sexual being. But, y'know, when she becomes sexually active, I want her to have a choice as to whether to bear a child or not. Her. Not some some anonymous, faceless legislator who has never been scared and worried that her entire life is going to change because she went off to a party and some asshole popped a pill in her drink while she wasn't looking.

So, OmegeMom, do you think they will raise the welfare benefits to accomodate all these kids?

I heard on NPR today that the governor will probably sign this.
If it is enacted into law (which seems inevitable now) we are going to learn everything we want to know about our new Supreme Court justices rather quickly.

I comfort myself by trying to believe that the pendulum will swing again.

I have to admit I checked back on this post because I was curious which way the comments would go in the China adoption community...

    Pretty quiet in here...

Not a word, Scott. Not a word. Comments have been sparse lately...:( I read an interesting analysis by MSNBC today wherein they claimed that the law would probably be struck down by the Circuit Court, and that if it was taken to the Supreme Court, the Supremes probably wouldn't take the case. The analysis was that the liberal justices wouldn't want to take it on because they couldn't guarantee five votes against it, and the conservative justices wouldn't want to take it on just yet because it would be...can't remember the word...but "non-politic" to jump on the case right away. Besides, the conservatives, too, can't guarantee five votes. Interesting analysis.
